The word 'zawrotną karierę' (meteoric rise) in the times of the Polish People's Republic „to scheme”. In the face of chronic food shortages on the market, preparing a meal for the family became quite a challenge – it required ingenuity, resourcefulness, and often cunning. So, people cooked „from nothing”, using whatever they managed to get hold of. How daily cooking looked in the 1980s will be told by Dr Grzegorz Piotrowski – sociologist, head of the Social Movements Research Unit at the University of Gdańsk, employee of the Science and Collections Department at the European Solidarity Centre, and book editor „PRL Cuisine”.
