New locations for exhibitors and more parking spaces for the residents of the City Centre – this is how this year's St. Dominic's Fair is set to look. The Festival of Wonders will take place in the very heart of Gdańsk from July 25th to August 16th.
Although there is still some time before the start of the 766th St. Dominic's Fair, intensive preparations have been underway for several months.
Due to planned renovations in the city centre, this year's Fair will feature several new developments. The most significant is the relocation of Collectors' stalls from Długie Ogrody to Tło Węglowy. Stalls for Artists and Craftsmen will also be set up in other locations. Exhibitors from Szafarnia will move to, among other places, Podwale Staromiejskie, ulica Szeroka, ulica Rajska, and Tło Drzewne, and stalls previously located on the currently-under-renovation Zielony Most will appear on ulica Świętego Ducha.
Listening to the needs of the residents of Śródmieście, the Fair organisers have also prepared several options for people living in the Main Town. Instead of the car park on Targ Węglowy, which will be occupied by the aforementioned Collectors, residents will be able to use several other car parks located closer to their homes: at Rycerska Street, Lawendowa Street, along Podwale Staromiejskie next to Plac Kobzdeja, and at NOT. It will also be possible to park in the car park at Długie Ogrody. Residents will be able to use the car parks designated for them based on their existing passes for the Limited Access Zone.
As in previous years, drivers will also be able to use the Park & Ride facility at Plac Zebrań Ludowych. Parking spaces for collectors from the Coal Market will also be located there.
In parallel with the preparations, work is also underway on the application to include selected traditions and practices of the Fair passed down from generation to generation (such as crafts and handicrafts) on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The application is being prepared by the Kashubian Institute in cooperation with the Pomeranian Chamber of Crafts for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, the Museum of Gdańsk, and with the support of MTG. Social consultations were held in March, and the main depository of the application was also selected. Robert Niemiec from the Unicornis Unicornis Handicraft Workshop in Olkusz was chosen by acclamation.
The application should be submitted before the start of the St. Dominic's Fair.
