For centuries, Gdańsk, as a vibrant port city, has been a destination and meeting point for people from all over the world. The tradition of St. Dominic's Fair, initiated in 1260 by the Dominican order, attracted merchants to the city, who on board their ships brought not only exotic goods but also a wealth of cultures and stories.
Today, as centuries ago, many roads lead to Gdańsk, and the city remains a destination for modern travellers, pilgrims, and adventurers. At the "Port Gdańsk under Sails" stop, remarkable travellers will meet, for whom Gdańsk has become the culmination of their unique journeys.
We invite you to a panel discussion with guests who will share their travel stories:
Rafał Machowiak – a traveller who, after a multi-week trek, arrives in Gdańsk today, 27 July, completing their journey on foot The Way of St. Adalbert. A tale of the hardships and beauty of solitary pilgrimage.
Julian Golak initiator and mastermind International Trail of St. Adalbert, which will introduce the idea of recreating historical routes and connecting contemporary Europe with them.
Leszek Pachulski creator “Vistula 1200” cycle route”, one of the longest and most beautiful cycling ultramarathons in Poland. He will share his experiences from the perspective of two wheels and talk about how the river connects the south with the north of the country, leading all the way to the Baltic Sea.
The meeting will be a story about the different faces of travel, the motivations that drive us on our journey, and how the history of old trade and pilgrimage routes is brought to life by the passion of modern travellers. We will talk about Gdańsk as a symbolic port – a destination, a place for encounters and exchanges, just as it is today as it was hundreds of years ago.
