Gdańsk Museum This is a place where history meets the present, and every nook tells a fascinating story about the city's past. Founded in 1970, the Museum has been documenting and presenting the history of Gdańsk for over half a century, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
The main seat of the Museum is the Main Town Hall, an impressive 14th-century Gothic-Renaissance building located on Długa Street. Inside, you can admire, among other things, the Great Council Hall, known as the Red Hall, and the Great Weighing Hall, known as the White Hall. The Town Hall tower houses a carillon with 37 bells, which plays melodies on the hour, adding charm to strolls along the Royal Route. A second carillon is located on the tower of St. Catherine's Church.

The Gdańsk Museum consists of ten branches, including well-known ones such as The Amber Museum in the Great Mill, Artus Court, or Uphagen's House. In 2024, museum sites were visited by over 650,000 guests, with the Amber Museum (over 211,000 visitors) and the Main Town Hall (over 150,000 visitors) being the most popular.
The museum's collections comprise around 77,000 objects, including unique exhibits related to Gdańsk's history, as well as genuine Guinness World Records – the largest piece of amber in the World (Amber Museum) and Saint Catherine's Braid, a clock with the longest pendulum in the World (Gdańsk Science Museum). Thanks to digitisation, part of the collection is available online. You can also visit the museum before your visit, virtually. (Please note that there is a link here, I don't know how to change it)
During the St. Dominic's Fair, the Museum of Gdańsk offers special exhibitions and events, (link to tez), allowing you to delve even deeper into the city's rich history. It's a perfect opportunity to rediscover Gdańsk and feel its unique atmosphere.
