Paolo Bougeat – was born in the Italian city of Aosta in 1963. He attended the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, where he was awarded three diplomas – in organ, organ composition and harpsichord. He has taken part in numerous masterclasses on the medieval and Romantic periods, as well as the French organ repertoire. He began his performing career in 1981 and has since given over 500 concerts in Italy, across many European countries and in the USA. He is also a very active composer (a winner of numerous prizes at international competitions), who devotes particular attention to organ compositions in his work. His works are published by Edizioni Carrara of Bergamo.
He is an active organist, harpsichordist and teacher – he teaches organ and organ composition at the Higher Institute of Musical Studies of the Aosta Valley. In 2016 and 2017, he was a tutor at the „Early Music School” masterclasses in Magnano. He combines his musical and teaching activities with research in the field of musicology. Paolo Bougeat is the author of two books: „The Organ at Aosta Cathedral 1902–2002” and „Organs in the Aosta Valley”, which explore the region’s most fascinating instruments. He is interested in new contexts of organ art and theories regarding the construction and typology of contemporary pipe organs. He has supervised projects for new organs (particularly in terms of sound) in Arnad and Courmayeur, as well as the newly built instrument in Saint-Vincent, completed in 2017.
