The Joseph Conrad-Korzeniowski Provincial and Municipal Public Library in Gdańsk (WiMBP) proves that a modern library is far more than shelves of books. It is a thriving cultural centre promoting reading, an incubator for new technology and a respected regional publisher that takes its offer directly to residents – both in the urban space and, seasonally, on trains and in shopping centres.

The library has an extensive network of branches, each with its own unique character and an offer tailored to the local community. Worth mentioning here are the Manhattan Library, the largest media library in Pomerania; the atmospheric Gdańsk Branch, which cherishes the memory of the city's identity; the Barrier-Free Library, offering a rich programme of activities for people with disabilities; and the Stogi Library, with its café, psychological counselling rooms and Kindloteka – a zone promoting e-book reading and modern technology that engages the youngest visitors in learning to code and developing digital skills.

The library's flagship projects include Tylko Relacja, a literary-psychological festival that has hosted guests such as Ewa Woydyłło, Eliza Kącka and Maja Lunde; Afera Kryminalna, a series of events curated by Maciej Siembieda for crime-fiction enthusiasts; and the Great Reading Marathon, which the library co-organises. The Main Library is also home to the office of the "Wiatr od Morza" Pomeranian Literary Award and the Gdańsk Circle of the Polish Bibliotherapy Society.

On a daily basis, the branches in various Gdańsk districts host workshops for children and young people, author meet-and-greets, Discussion Book Club events, and poetry-promotion activities in partnership with the Gdańsk Poets' Club.
